Clyde and Bonnie is a dialogue-free narrative short film that explores themes of survival, empowerment, and reclaiming control through visual storytelling. Written as a contained character piece, the film follows a woman who decides to break free from an abusive relationship by turning the tables on her captor. After drugging her abusive partner and restraining him to a tree, she forces him to endure a harrowing game of target practice, using his own weapon as she gradually confronts the fear that once controlled her.
Designed as both a narrative exercise and a technical filmmaking experiment, the production emphasizes storytelling through performance, composition, and atmosphere rather than dialogue. Every emotion, power shift, and revelation is communicated through body language, camera movement, editing, and pacing, inviting the audience to interpret the characters' history through subtext instead of exposition. The film embraces a grounded, tension-filled visual style inspired by character-driven thrillers, allowing silence to become one of its most effective storytelling tools.
Filmed entirely on location after an extensive location scout through the surrounding hills, the project combined practical production techniques with cinematic craftsmanship to create a contained yet visually ambitious piece. Practical pyrotechnic effects, dynamic cinematography, and carefully designed sound all work together to heighten the suspense while maintaining realism. As with many of my early narrative projects, Clyde and Bonnie served as an opportunity to test new filmmaking techniques, refine my approach to directing actors, and continue developing a visual style rooted in atmosphere, tension, and emotionally driven storytelling.
